Carolyn: To Inspire You05.21.13

Some of you may remember a few years ago that my running partner and I decided we wanted to encourage women in our community to run the mini-marathon. We planned to train with them and run with them every step of the way. That’s when I met Carolyn. I ran with her a few times, but it was very apparent she didn’t need me! She was so mentally strong and so positive…

Let’s jump ahead a little bit…

She ran the mini with her husband. She did great. She then signed up for a FULL marathon and completed her training while I was training for my marathon. Almost every Saturday, we’d pass each other. It was so fun to see her smile, exchange a few words, and laugh about the snacks she had stowed away for fuel during the duration of her run. I knew she looked great. I knew she felt healthy. I knew she was an amazing woman.

I was thrilled when she scheduled a session with me. Although it was outside of my business focus, I thought her story was an important one. It was authentic. It was dream-filled. It was a story of healing, hard work, and a positive attitude. I was excited to capture it.

Let’s jump ahead another two years…

Here’s what Carolyn said, “This is my 4 year anniversary of the epiphany that changed my life. My mission and ministry to the women I am blessed to serve is that we are created to live courageously and challenge the media images of what true beauty is. I have a few young people whom I mentor into having a healthy relationship with their body and to use their fitness, athleticism and exercise as acts of service and worship to God.

I wear a bracelet that has a quoteby e.e. Cummings. It says, ‘It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.’ There is no perfect. There is only the path that God is leading you in to bring honor and glory to Him. Despite the mess we perceive our attempts to be, we do nothing great, we serve a great God.”

I trust you’re inspired!

Brooklyn: Oak Hill Spokesmodel05.17.13

I’m not a DIY kinda gal. I love Pinterest, but you won’t find me pinning too many craft projects.

Sometimes I forget that though.

Like the time I wanted to redo a vintage bike for this photography season.

I passed by an old Montgomery Ward bike outside of a flea market a few months ago. I stopped to look at it briefly but brought my husband, a.k.a. the bike man, back a few hours later to check it out. I picked him up from work so he was wearing a suit and tie.

I firmly believe that I should never pay full price for a ticketed item in a flea market. Remind me next time not to bring my husband in a suit and tie if I expect to make a deal. The flea market man wouldn’t budge. Gee. I wonder why.

We had two weeks before the spokesmodel shootout, and after Brooklyn sent me her outfits, I thought she would be the perfect gal to christen the new prop.

Of course that meant my husband had to actually update the bike because (remember) I’m not a DIY gal :)

He worked tirelessly (no pun intended) on cleaning it, degreasing it, removing the stickers, taking it apart, spray painting it, etc.

Mike doesn’t do anything halfway so he even created a contraption that allowed him to spray paint all sides at once. I laughed hard. It’s such a Falder thing to do.

But it turned out beautifully. Props to my amazing husband who supports me and TFP in too many ways to count.

So here’s Brooklyn, a TFP spokesmodel from Oak Hill:

Kelsey: Oak Hill Spokesmodel05.14.13

I’ve been to this location many, many times. Before a shoot, I’m always praying that I can see things with a fresh perspective, but it was easy for me to do on this particular day. This “shack” has been in the background of hundreds of my photographs. It’s typically surrounded my waist-high grass with snakes and ticks.

But on this particular day the grass was mowed, and we got to go inside it’s walls! Don’t you just love it when that happens?!

We couldn’t stop shooting. A cool “new” setting and a beautiful red-head. Yes, I’m just a little partial. I think I’m allowed to be :)

Kelsey, you made our job easy.

Olivia: Eastbrook High School Spokesmodel05.08.13

I thought I would give you all a laugh circa 1992 and 1995.

Troy and I were both spokesmodels for our high school. Hence the reason he got his picture taken with a cactus, I’m sure. No, we’re not from Arizona; I’m sure it was a cool new prop that the studio wanted to try and Troy was a perfect fit, don’t you think?!

My pictures were taken the same day as prom my junior year, and believe it or not I actually got a PERM beforehand– you know, so I could look my best :)

I remember finishing pictures that day and rushing home to put on my teal, sweat heart neckline, tea-length, taffeta prom dress. Oh my.

I’m convinced that students are just more beautiful today. Here’s some proof with Olivia:

Name: Olivia
School: Eastbrook

Favorite Song: anything by Eric Hutchinson

Corrine: Southwood High School Spokesmodel05.06.13

I live in a very tiny town. Very tiny. We have one yellow flashing light and a small downtown. So when I planned for my senior spokesmodel shootout in two days time with Upland as my home base, I knew I was challenging myself for locations. I had a lofty goal– to find 24 locations for eight seniors in close proximity to my home office.

I made a flow chart– I guess that’s what you could call it. It had their outfits, potential props, and possible locations written, crossed out, and written again. It’s where my left brain was competing with my right brain!

My first criteria in choosing a location was whether I was INSPIRED. Could I SEE unique pictures in my head… Was I overwhelmed with possibilities…Was I confident… Did I get that feeling where I’m bursting with ideas, and I just can’t wait to get my client in that space?

I did.

And that’s where we took Corrine.

… after some studio shots.

Our lenses turned foggy immediately because of the humidity. We decided to use that to our advantage.
